Residents who live near the Sunny Farms Landfill south of Fostoria now have a bit more recourse when it comes to complaining about the odor. The Ohio EPA recently mandated a hot line be established and maintained by landfill owner and operator, WCA Waste Corporation back in January according to the Review Times. The hot line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is staffed by a third party to avoid conflict of interest. Complaints received on the hot line will be sent to the landfill operator, the Seneca County Health Department and the Ohio EPA. The hotline number is 866-419-8639.
The landfill operator was recently fined $30,000 in the same Ohio EPA order for persisting odor violations. In addition, Sunny Farms Landfill has been ordered to install an additional utility flare and gas extraction wells among other odor control methods.
