North Main Building Demo Closer To Reality

Wednesday, March 13, 2013 - 4:58 AM

Plans are starting to move forward again to demolish some eyesores just north of the Main Street bridge in Findlay. The Courier reports now that more is known on how the Army Corps of Engineers plans to proceed with flood control measures, the demolition of the buildings between 199 and 133 North Main Street is closer to a reality. There had been concerns that tearing down the buildings before hearing from the Ohio Historic Preservation Office could put flood funding at risk.

The buildings were put on the historic register in the 1980's, and that has slowed the process. However since early drafts of the flood control plan don't contain flood walls or levees downtown, it could get the process moving again. The preservation office didn't want to take action until flood control plans were a little more clear.

Once the demolition is complete, the county plans to leave the land vacant.
