The Putnam County Auditor's Office is warning property owners of a letter from a private company that promises they can lower your real estate taxes..

Putnam County Auditor Robert Benroth says property owners from around the county have brought these letters in from a company called Tax Compliance Services. He also warned residents that you will be charged 50 percent of your savings or refund. Benroth said you may file a DTE1 form in any county to appeal the valuation of your property free of charge..

Mr. Benroth said you can contact your county auditor's office for more information or request the DTE1 which is a state form. You may file it free of charge prior to March 31.
