We can expect to see some progress in the economy this year, at least according to Bob Morgan, the managing director of Austin Associates in Toledo. The Courier reports Morgan spoke in Findlay Thursday and said signs are pointing to more people gaining enough confidence in the economy to buy a house or car. He said new home construction should continue to increase, because the inventory of unsold homes is getting smaller. More people are expected to buy cars this year because the average age of cars currently on the road is a little more than 10 years.
It's not all good news though. Morgan doesn't see unemployment falling much until 2015. A couple of the reasons are familiar; too few workers have the training required for the jobs available, and technology is reducing the amount of employees a company needs. However Morgan says there's another factor to worry about; a growing number of people who can't qualify for a job because they can't pass a drug test.
