Firefighters battled a blaze near Bascom in Seneca County Monday afternoon. The Bascom Joint Fire District was called to a garage at 1766 South U.S. 23 around 2:30 p.m. Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the building when firefighters arrived. They were able to keep the flames from spreading to a home on the property, but the heat from the blaze damaged the home's siding. The fire was caused by a wood burning stove in the garage. The building and its content were a complete loss, but no damage estimate has been made available yet.
