UF roundup: Vicars wins discus at Wake Forest
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Derrick Vicars followed up Friday's winning performance in the hammer throw by winning the discus Saturday to lead the University of Findlay track teams at the Wake Forest Open.

The senior from Genoa won the discus with a toss of 181-7. Teammates Marcus Vicars (155-9) and Taylor Miller (150-0) were fifth and eighth, respectively.

Four other UF men added top eight individual finishes.

Justin Eilerman led the Oilers on the track by placing second in the 3,000-meter run (8:42.3).

Dillon Webster was fifth in the 800 (1:53.2) and Tim Sanders eighth in the 400 hurdles (52.91). Senior and Bluffton native John Guagenti was seventh in the 200 (21.58).

Guagenti, Sanders and Webster teamed with Darren Johnson to finish second in the 1,600 relay (3:10.85).

In the women's meet, Findlay's Christine Zimmerman finished seventh in the 800 (2:16.5).

Winters leads Western

Ashley Winters, the high-point rider in the region and a national qualifier, will lead 10 University of Findlay Western Equestrian riders into the regional semifinals after a solid showing in a UF-hosted meet over the weekend.

The top two riders in each event qualified for the regional semifinals to be held this weekend.

8 English riders advance

Eight members of the University of Findlay English Equestrian team qualified for zone competition after their placing in an IHSA regional hosted by UF on Saturday.

The Zone meet will be held April 7 in West Virginia.

Lacrosse gets first win

LEBANON, Ill. -- The University of Findlay's women's lacrosse team chalked up its first-ever win with a 17-16 victory over McKendree University on Sunday in Lebanon, Ill.

Mackenzie Barnwell's seventh goal of the game with 9:03 left in the match turned out to be the game-winner for UF (1-5). Sarah Lankton scored six goals and added an assist and Lex Renner got the win in goal for the Oilers, who outshot McKendree 38-27.
