WORTHINGTON -- Findlay High's hockey team peppered Olentangy Orange with 42 shots on Sunday. But the Trojans managed just a single goal in falling 2-1 to the Pioneers in the third round of the Martin Luther King Holiday Classic Hockey Tournament at the Chiller North Ice Arena in Worthington.
"We outshot them 42-16, but they capitalized on their opportunities and we were not able to take advantage of ours," said FHS coach Joe Longo.
Lucas Stump score the lone goal for Findlay.
The Trojans, 15-9-1 on the season, will face No. 8-ranked Olentangy Liberty at 11:50 a.m. today in the round-robin tournament.
Findlay opened the tournament like gang-busters scoring 15 goals in rolling past Springboro 10-6 and Centerville 5-1.
Conner Curlis scored three goals and had two assists, Andy Martin had two goals and two assists, and Noah Hindall had a goal and two assists in Findlay's romp over Springboro.
Stump and Hindall had a goal and two assists each against Centerville.
Findlay returns to Northwest Hockey Conference play with a game against Toledo St. Francis Friday at Tam-O-Shanter Arena in Sylvania.
The Trojans are home Saturday with No. 7-ranked Gates Mills Gilmour Academy in a 6 p.m. match at The Cube.
