Prep gymnastics: Trojans win title at Kilbourne
WORTHINGTON -- Findlay High's gymnastics team had already made one impressive statement this season with a commanding margin of victory over most of the other teams in Northwest Ohio in the Sylvania Southview Invitational.

At the Worthington Kilbourne tournament on Saturday, the Trojans may have just turned that statement up a notch.

Alexis Settlemire won an individual title in the vault and Findlay's depth resulted in four gymnasts finishing among the top nine in the all-around standings as the Trojans added the Worthington Kilbourne championship to the Southview Invitational title they won two weeks ago.

"It was a good showing against some tough teams," FHS coach Traci Dunn said after Findlay topped a 17-team field that included four teams that competed in last year's state meet, including 2012 state runner-up Mentor.

Findlay compiled 139.925 points in the competition. Dublin Coffman was second (137.925), Worthington Kilbourne's "A" team a distant third (134.375) and Mentor fourth (131.7).

Settlemire, a two-time state qualifier, won the vault with a score of 9.4, was second on floor (9.375), finished ninth on the balance beam (8.35) and was fifth in the all-around standings (35.225).

Sophomore Tori Cox led the Trojans by finishing fourth all-around (35.25). Cox was second on beam (8.75), third on bars (8.95) and fifth on floor (9.15).

Sophomore Maranda Butler was sixth (34.85) and freshman Leah Thomas ninth (34.6) in the all-around scoring. Butler was sixth on vault (8.75) and seventh on bars (8.65) and floor (9.075). Thomas was fifth on bars (8.85), seventh on beam (8.4) and ninth on vault (8.55).

Findlay's gymnastics and wrestling teams will take part in a unique dual-sport event this Saturday dubbed the "Beauty and the Beast" competition at the FHS Gymnasium. At the same time the wrestling team is taking on Perrysburg, the gymnastics team will be in competition against Perrysburg and Oregon Clay.
