College basketball: No. 8 ONU women knock off John Carroll
The Ohio Northern women's basketball team, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division III, defeated John Carroll 72-61 Saturday to remain unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Joanna Snyder scored a game-high 22 points for the Polar Bears (16-1, 10-0 OAC). She also had eight rebounds and six assists.

Ada native Morgan Dumbaugh scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Beth Switzler and Melissa Spahar each scored a team-high 13 points for the Lobos (10-7, 3-7). Switzler finished with eight rebounds.

ONU men falll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Ohio Northern led 73-60 with 4:48 left, but John Carroll went on a 16-0 run and the Blue Streaks came from behind to defeat the Polar Bears 78-75 Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

Kenny Janz led John Carroll (7-8, 4-5 OAC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Branden Rushton paced Ohio Northern (7-9, 3-6 OAC) with 19 points. Jared Horstman, a Fort Jennings graduate, and Taylor Kuhlman, an Ottawa-Glandorf alum, added 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Polar Bears.

Ruffer leads BU women

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology used a late first-half run to speed past Bluffton University 53-47 Saturday in women's basketball Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Rose-Hulman (7-10, 3-7 HCAC) went on a 12-4 run late in the first half to build a 30-18 lead. Carrie Morris led the Engineers with 14 points.

Brook Ruffer scored a game-high 15 points for Bluffton (9-8, 4-6 HCAC) and grabbed seven rebounds. Kylee Burkholder scored five points with four rebounds.

Rose-Hulman tops BU men

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Austin Weatherford scored 19 points as Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology defeated Bluffton University 67-64 Saturday in a men's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball game.

Julian Strickland contributed 15 points and four assists for Rose-Hulman (15-2, 9-1 HCAC). The Engineers shot 46 percent from the field (25-55) with six 3-pointers.

Will Pope led Bluffton (7-10, 3-7 HCAC) with 16 points and nine rebounds while Josh Johnson scored 10 points.
