Girls Basketball: Tong's double-double ignites 12-1 Carey
VANLUE -- Heather Tong had an impressive double-double and the Carey defense was pretty strong as the Blue Devils won their fifth straight game, turning back back Vanlue 55-26 Saturday in nonconference girls basketball.

Carey (12-1) helped its cause by converting 21 of 39 2-point field goal attempts, winning for the fifth time this season against a Blanchard Valley Conference game.

Tong, a 6-foot-1 post player, scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. The senior is the Midland Athletic League rebound leader at 10.5 per game.

Ali Rymer added 10 points for the Blue Devils, who got four steals and nine assists from Sydney Wentling.

Vanlue (4-9) got nine points from Katie Thomas with Kayla Cornette adding 7. Thomas, Logan Frey and Cornette each had four rebounds and Haley Bonham and Frey finished with two steals each.

ARCADIA -- Arcadia jumped out to a 38-11 lead by halftime and the Redskins rolled over Lakota 61-28 Saturday in nonconference girls basketball action.

Miranda Palmer had a big night for Arcadia with 22 points, four assists and five steals. Molly Glick had a solid all-around outing with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Additionally, Rebecca Kirian snared 11 rebounds for Arcadia (10-3), which won its fourth straight game.

Jessica Walter scored eight points for Lakota (2-12), which hit just 11 of 39 shots from the field.

LEIPSIC -- Amber Gerdeman scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter to help Leipsic get rolling in its 53-36 Putnam County League win Saturday versus Columbus Grove.

Gerdeman added eight rebounds and four blocks for the Vikings (8-5, 3-1 PCL).

Shalynn Morman contributed 10 points for Leipsic, while Haley Gerten scored nine points, grabbed six rebounds and dished off five assists.

Hope Schroeder scored nine points to pace Columbus Grove (2-11, 0-4)

NORTH BALTIMORE -- Three McComb players scored in double digits and the Panthers got ahead early to defeat North Baltimore 53-37 Saturday in girls nonconference basketball action.

Brenna Dee led McComb (10-3) with 12 points, six assists and four steals. Jenna Huffman (10 points) and Kristen Buck (10) also reached double figures.

Briana Herr claimed 12 rebounds, while Huffman and Emily Clymer each snared nine as the Panthers outrebounded the Tigers 40-32.

Ricci Emahiser and Megan Wright each scored 10 points to pace North Baltimore (7-7), which did have 15 offensive rebounds.

OTTAWA -- Ottawa-Glandorf used a strong defensive effort in the second half to dominate Delphos St. John's 45-19 Saturday in girls nonleague basketball play.

The Titans held the Blue Jays to just four points over the final two periods as Ottawa-Glandorf quickly added to a 22-15 halftime lead.

Elissa Ellerbrock had a solid game for Ottawa-Glandorf (8-5) with a game-high 19 points and team highs of five rebounds and three steals.

Kristen Miller added 12 points for the Titans, who had eight players score and have prevailed in five straight games.

Brooke Zuber led Delphos St. John's (6-5) with six points.



PANDORA-GILBOA 51

FORT JENNINGS 35

FORT JENNINGS -- Megan Maag scored a game-high 22 points and Pandora-Gilboa stayed undefeated in the Putnam County League with a 51-35 victory over Fort Jennings Saturday.

The Rockets, who will play fellow PCL unbeaten Ottoville Tuesday, used a 20-11 second-quarter advantage to take a 29-17 lead by halftime.

Maag notched her second double-double in two games as she added 11 rebounds for Pandora-Gilboa (8-4, 3-0 PCL).

Keri Conine chipped in 10 points for the Rockets. Hunter Hermiller added seven points, nine rebounds and four steals. Vanessa McCullough dished off eight assists.

Emily Kahres led the Musketeers (6-8, 0-3) with nine points. Macy Schroeder added eight.

DOLA -- Hopewell-Loudon got scoring from nine players and the Chieftains had a huge 53-27 rebounding margin Saturday in an easy 49-13 nonconference girls basketball victory over Hardin Northern.

The Chieftains (7-6) also held the Polar Bears to single-digit scoring in each quarter. Hardin Northern was stalled by a cold 9.6 percent shooting, converting just 5 of 52 attempts.

Lauren Trumpler led Hopewell-Loudon with 14 points, while Shelby Schlatter had five and Brianna Campbell four for Hardin Northern (1-13).

Brooklyn Watts had six rebounds for the Bears.

KENTON -- Kenton made 27 free throws and the Wildcats used a strong second half to defeat Hardin County rival Ada 65-50 Saturday in nonconference girls basketball action.

Brooke Bostelman scored a game-high 25 points for the Wildcats. She made 11 free throws in the game.

Gwen Downing (14 points) and Kaily Whitaker (11) also scored in double figures for Kenton (8-6), which outscored the Bulldogs 43-28 after halftime.

Taylor Willeke had a monster performance for Ada (8-6) with a team-high 23 points. Tori Wyss added nine points as the Bulldogs converted only nine free throws.

RAWSON -- Kendra Tuttle scored a career-high 26 points and broke the Cory-Rawson girls basketball single-game steals record as the Hornets hammered Ridgemont 81-29 Saturday in nonconference action.

Tuttle took away 11 steals to break Janet Cox's previous record set in 1981. Tuttle made 10 two-point field goals, a trey and three free throws en route to her 26 point display.

Kiley Scott (17 points), Courtney Dulle (13) and Megan Ritter (10) also hit double figures for Cory-Rawson (7-8).

Dulle added six assists and Ritter five rebounds for the Hornets, who have prevailed in five of their last seven games.

Aislinn McCullough paced Ridgemont (0-13) with 14 points.

BLUFFTON -- Kayla Patton hit 13 of 17 free throw attempts en route to a 23-point effort to help Waynesfield-Goshen post a 54-38 nonconference victory Saturday over Bluffton.

The Tigers hit 18 of 27 attempts at the charity stripe, while Bluffton (9-3) hit just 7 of 12 and had a five-game winning streak snapped.

Sarah Schriner and Bailey Prichard each scored 11 points for Bluffton with Sierra Amstutz adding 10.
