College Basketball: No. 9 ONU women win 13th straight
BEXLEY -- The No. 9-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 13 games Saturday with a 61-47 victory over Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference play at the Capital Center.

With the win, the Polar Bears are now 14-1 on the season and 8-0 in OAC play, while the Crusaders fall to 10-5, 5-3.

Senior Joanna Snyder led the way for Northern with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Junior Cenzie Yoder added 13 points and nine rebounds and senior Morgan Dumbaugh scored 11 points.

Cookie Geroski, who is a Fostoria St. Wendelin graduate, led Capital (10-5, 5-3) with 12 points.

Bluffton men roll

BLUFFTON -- Bluffton University jumped out to a quick 35-15 lead by halftime and disposed of Anderson University 67-45 Saturday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball.

The Beavers held Anderson to just 26 percent (14 of 54) shooting from the field.

Will Pope led Bluffton (6-9, 2-6 HCAC) with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Josh Johnson, an Ottawa-Glandorf graduate, scored 11 points.

Dustin Kinn, formerly of New Riegel, clicked for nine points and nine rebounds. Thayne Recker, who prepped at Arlington, scored eight points for Bluffton.

Isaac Loechie led Anderson (7-8, 3-5) with 13 points. Nate Gross scored 12 points and snared 14 rebounds.

Capital downs ONU

ADA -- Ohio Northern rallied from a 19-point deficit, but Capital got two free throws from Tim Congrove with three seconds left to cap off an exciting 69-64 men's basketball victory Saturday at the ONU Sports Center in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Polar Bears fall to 7-8 overall and are 3-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Crusaders improve to 11-4 overall and stay atop the OAC with an 8-0 mark.

Junior Jared Horstman scored 14 points, sophomore Lucas Pennington 14 points and junior Branden Rushton 12 points for ONU (7-8, 3-5 OAC).

Capital (11-4, 8-0) was led by Spencer Niekamp and Tim Congrove with 17 points each.

The Crusaders led 42-26 at halftime and extended that advantage to 53-34 with 13:57 left.

Kurilec keys Bluffton

BLUFFTON -- Four Bluffton players scored in double figures and the Beavers blew away Anderson University 79-64 Saturday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball action.

Bluffton (8-7, 3-5 HCAC) shot 54 percent (29 of 54) from the field. Brenna Kurilec scored 16 points to lead the Beavers.

Taylor Whitaker, Rachel DeBord and Kylee Burkholder each chipped in 11 points.

Jenna Wittenberg led Anderson (4-11, 3-5) with 14 points.
