Girls basketball: Arlington wins on late basket
BASCOM -- After building a big lead in the first half, Arlington needed Kathryn Jolliff's 15-footer with 2 seconds left to edge Hopewell-Loudon 56-55 on Tuesday in nonconference girls basketball.

Arlington (9-3) led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter and took a 35-24 lead into halftime. But Hopewell-Loudon (6-6) battled back and took its first lead with 8 seconds remaining before Jolliff's heroics just before the buzzer.

Jordyn Webb hit four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points for Arlington. Madi Mains matched Webb's four 3-pointers to finish with 12 points. Mains and Dani Heaster each finished with five rebounds.

Courtney burns had a game-high 23 points for Hopewell-Loudon. Danielle Rohrbach added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Chieftains, who held a 32-22 rebounding advantage.

WAPAKONETA -- Katie Simon put together another massive performance and Liberty-Benton walloped Wapakoneta 54-36 Tuesday in nonconference girls basketball action.

Simon poured in 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Eagles led 22-12 by halftime and added on from there.

Rachel Myers scored 14 points and Carrie Reynolds dished off five assists for Liberty-Benton (8-3), which was 17 of 29 shooting from inside the arc.

Sara Warner led Wapakoneta (5-7) with 13 points.

USV (7-3) led 17-3 after and took advantage of 23 Vanlue (4-8) turnovers.

Haley Bonham led the Wildcats with nine points, while Kate Clymer added seven points and Katie Thomas pulled down a team-leading six rebounds.

SANDUSKY -- Sandusky St. Marys was winless entering Tuesday's nonleague girls basketball game and Fostoria St. Wendelin made sure the Panthers stayed that way, blitzing them 18-9 in the first quarter and 49-23 in the second half to chalk up a run-away 82-50 victory.

Colleen Fondessy scored 19 points and Kamryn Troike had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead a balanced St. Wendelin attack. Ali Mowrey added 11 points, Allie Rutter 10 and Heather Saalman nine as the Mohawks improved to 7-6.

Hannah Snow had a team-high 14 points for St. Marys (0-11).

BLOOMDALE -- Brittany Gross had a solid performance, Kristen Curtis provided a double-double and unbeaten Elmwood surged ahead in the second quarter to make Otsego its 11th straight victim this season, beating the Knights 43-33.

The victory leaves the Royals at 5-0 in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

The two teams were deadlocked at 7-7 after one period before Elmwood used a 16-7 second-quarter blitz to go ahead to stay, leaving Otsego 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Gross led the Royals' offensive attack with 21 points. She also had five steals and six assists.

Curtis added 10 points and grabbed a team-leading 11 rebounds.

Otsego got 12 points from Jessica Roberts.

Lynsey Trusty had 17 points and Kasey Adelsperger had 10 points for host Mohawk (10-3).

Tiffany Wright lef Riverdale (6-6) with 10 points. Ashlynn Walter and Pre Parish each had four rebounds for the Falcons, while Tiffany Wright contributed three steals and Jordyn Wright added a pair of assists.
