Boys basketball: PCL title will come down to final weekend
COLUMBUS GROVE -- In a game featuring 17 3-pointers, Columbus Grove used its balanced scoring Saturday night to shoot past Miller City 67-56 in the Putnam County League finale.

Columbus Grove (14-7 overall) finished 6-1 in the PCL. The Bulldogs can still claim a share of the league race if Fort Jennings defeats Leipsic (6-0 PCL) this Friday. Miller City (15-6) fell back to 4-3 in the league.

The Bulldogs, who scored 41 points over the final two periods, drained 8 of 12 shots from beyond the arc, while Miller City was 9 of 28.

Derek Rieman recorded a double-double for the Bulldogs with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Collin Grothaus added 13 points with three steals, Will Vorhees had 12 points and six rebounds and Jace Darbyshire finished with 11 points and a team-leading seven assists.

The bulk of Miller City's offense came from Russell Niese (17 points) and Ross Kaufman (14).



LEIPSIC 55

OTTOVILLE 52

LEIPSIC -- Austin Brown scored a game-high 22 points and Leipsic held off pesky Ottoville 55-52 Saturday as the Vikings clinched a share of the Putnam County League boys basketball title.

Leipsic improved to 17-4 on the season and 6-0 in the PCL. A Vikings' win Friday at Fort Jennings would clinch the championship outright. Ottoville fell to 8-13, 3-4.

Brown was 7 of 11 shooting from the field and added five rebounds and two steals.

Devin Mangas had another big night with 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals for Leipsic, which has won seven of its last nine games. Aric Schroeder contributed in several ways with six points, five assists and six rebounds.

Ottoville got a balanced scoring effort from Ryan Honigford (13 points), Luke Schimmoeller (12) and Derek Schimmoeller (11). The Big Green stayed in the game by making all 11 of their free throws, despite getting outrebounded 29-16.

OTTAWA -- T.J. Metzger's team-high 23 points led the way for Ottawa-Glandorf in a 58-50 victory Saturday over Perrysburg in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Metzger, who hit a last-second bucket the night before to stun Lima Bath 55-54 in a Western Buckeye League shootout, hit a game-high five 3-pointers. Michael Rosebrock added 17 points for the Titans (18-3).

Nick Moschietti scored a game-high 25 points for the Yellow Jackets (13-8). Shane Edwards added 18 points.

CONTINENTAL -- Tinora used a strong second quarter to take the lead Saturday and then closed the door on defense in the fourth quarter play to clinch a 58-51 win over Continental in nonleague boys basketball action.

Derek Drewes scored 13 points to lead Tinora (16-5), which had five players score at least six points.

Chazz Slattman scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for Continental (6-14), which was outrebounded 24-15.
