Boys basketball: Free throws key as North Baltimore tops Arcadia, 61-51
ARCADIA -- North Baltimore held a huge 23-7 advantage at the free-throw line in the Tigers' 61-51 win over Arcadia on Saturday in nonconference boys basketball action.

North Baltimore (3-18) went 23 of 32 from the stripe, while the Redskins (2-19) were just 7 of 16.

Jacob Frost led the North Baltimore with 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Jordan Watson chipped in 14 points.

Hayden Ramsey scored 18 points to lead Arcadia. Casey Mock added 12 points, four assists and four steals. Chad Baker snared 11 rebounds for the Redskins, who didn't take advantage of 29 North Baltimore turnovers.

HAMLER -- Liberty-Benton started the game on a 24-1 run as the Eagles blew out Patrick Henry on the road 75-33 Saturday night in a nonconference boys basketball game.

The Eagles (20-1) had a 38-9 advantage at the half after their big first quarter. The Patriots (1-18) were outscored 37-24 in the second half.

Adam Cytlak scored a game-high 15 points for the Eagles. Ryan Geise added 12 points and John Darnall contributed 11 points and six assists.

A.J. Wagner led the Patriots with 11 points. Adam Prigge finished with nine points.

SYCAMORE -- The big man had a game to match his stature Saturday night.

Zach Garber, Vanlue's 6-foot-10 senior center, scored 45 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked five shots as the Wildcats overwhelmed Mohawk 84-33 in a nonleague boys basketball contest.

Garber made 19 of 23 shots from the floor -- including 2 of 3 3-pointers. His 45 points were one shy of the school single-game record held by John Kloepfer.

Linden Smith added 11 points and nine assists for Vanlue (15-6). Josh Clymer had nine points and seven assists, and Nick Hagerty seven points and six assists.

Drew Loose led Mohawk (6-15) with 17 points.

ARLINGTON -- Columbus DeSales used a 16-8 fourth-quarter margin to put Arlington away 48-35 Saturday night in a nonconference boys basketball game.

The Stallions (10-10) held a five-point margin entering the fourth quarter before dominating the Red Devils (16-5).

Andrew Hunter scored a team-high 13 points for the Red Devils, who have lost three of their last four games. Michael Blunk added 10 points.

Darrien Scott recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Stallions.



UPPER SCIOTO VALLEY 71

HARDIN NORTHERN 46

MCGUFFEY -- A balanced scoring effort pushed Upper Scioto Valley past Hardin Northern 71-46 Saturday in boys basketball nonconference play.

Woody Prater paced the Rams (16-4) with 15 points while Craig Hurley and Dylan Hunsicker contributed 13 points each. Shane Rofe scored 12 points.

Kyle Hipsher led the Polar Bears (3-17) with 15 points while Hayden Bradley added 10.

KALIDA -- Cody Mathew drained six 3-pointers Saturday night en route to 29 points as Kalida defeated Van Buren 63-54 in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Kalida (8-12) put up 36 points over the first two quarters to build a comfortable 36-21 margin, but then allowed Van Buren (4-17) to hang around in the second half.

Devin Kortokrax added 17 point for the Wildcats.

Ryan Adolph and Mac Williams each scored 13 points to pace Van Buren. Ross Adolph and Breenon Swain scored nine points apiece.

RAWSON -- Lima Temple Christian won the second quarter to tie the game, then won the fourth quarter to earn the victory as the Pioneers edged Cory-Rawson 49-45 on Saturday in nonleague boys basketball action.

Justin Kroehler scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Andrew Rhoad netted 15 points and had 10 rebounds for LTC. The Pioneers (15-6) used an 8-3 edge in the second quarter to tie the game 20-20 at the half, then used a 16-9 rally in the fourth quarter to overcome a 36-33 deficit.

Matt Alspach led Cory-Rawson (11-10) with 17 points. Tyler Harris scored 13 points, while Aaron Welch (10) and Grant Risner (8) combined for 18 rebounds.
