Prep bowling: New Riegel girls advance to district tournament
MANSFIELD -- Amanda Weinandy rolled a 528 series Saturday to lead New Riegel's girls team third place in the sectional team standings at Park Lanes and a spot in Friday's district competition.

Fostoria's Alex Hersch qualified as an individual for the district tourney at Rossford's Interstate Lanes.

The top four teams and the highest-finishing four individuals not advancing with a team reached the district tournament.

Willard won the team title with a pinfall of 3,496, followed by Norwalk (3,294), New Riegel (3,188) and Lakota (3,107).

Weinandy's team-high series for New Riegel included games of 167, 177 and 184. Rounding out the Blue Jackets' lineup were Mikayla Theis (170-158-169--497), Kierra Morton (168-133-137--438), Brooke Mathias (123-147-143--413) and ShaiAnn Morton (121-138-132--391).

Fostoria's Hersch gained the fourth and final individual qualifying spot for the district with a 475 series that included games of 160, 153 and 162.

Friday's district play at Interstate Lanes will see the girls tournament starting at 10 a.m. and the boys competition starting at 5 p.m. Fostoria's boys will compete in the boys district after finishing second in the sectional.
