Cross Country: Hopewell-Loudon sweeps invite titles
FREMONT -- It was a Hopewell-Loudon sweep as the Chieftains' cross country teams took the boys and girls titles on Tuesday at the Fremont St. Joseph Invitational at Walsh Park.

Chet Swartzmiller (7th, 17:52.68) and Robert Kniss (8th, 17:59.42) led the Chieftains to the boys title. Hopewell-Loudon topped Otsego on a sixth-man tiebreaker after both teams finished with 65 points.

Carey's Michael Patton was fifth in 17:51.55 and Brayden Leist (10th, 18:02.49) helped the Blue Devils end up third. Fostoria St. Wendelin's Jorden Nye (6th, 17':51.83) also finished in the top 10.

Hopewell-Loudon outran St. Wendelin 84-93 to win the girls meet. Western Reserve's Amanda Miller won the race in 20:54.45.

Fostoria St. Wendelin's Jocelyn Reinhart (21:15.61) and Victoria Volpe (21:27.1) were second and third, respectively.

Hopewell-Loudon's Erin Reinhart-Anez (4th, 21:32.98) and Shelby Raudebaugh (6th, 21:51.66), New Riegel's Ashley Mathias (8th, 21:54.85) and Abby Cassidy (9th, 21:56.23) and Carey's Jaclyn Troiano (10th, 21:57.32) also finished in the top 10.

Grove and Kalida win

OTTAWA -- The Old Shoe was a soggy jog on Tuesday.

Columbus Grove's boys and Kalida's girls took the top prize at the Old Shoe Invitational cross country meet at Ottawa's Memorial Park.

Columbus Grove won the boys meet with a 20-51 margin over Ottawa-Glandorf. Kalida (73) and Ottoville (103) were next.

Jake Graham led six Columbus Grove top 10 finishers by winning the race in 16:26.

Alex Shafer (3rd, 17:15), Colton Grothaus (4th, 17:32), Grant Schroeder (5th, 17:37), Jerry Kesselmayer (7th, 18:07) and Nick Schmeising (8th, 18:09) were next for Columbus Grove.

Matias Trampe-Kindt finished second in 16:56 to lead Ottawa-Glandorf.

The Titans' Austin Escobedo (6th, 18:04) and Constantine Pracht (10th, 18:16) and Kalida's Grant Zeller (9th, 18:13) also finished in the top 10.

Kalida's Jessica Doepker (20:32), Katelyn Siebeneck (20:50) and Jackie Gardner (21:13) finished 1-2-3 to help the Wildcats top Ottawa-Glandorf 38-47 for the girls title. Pandora-Gilboa (66) and Columbus Grove (77) were next.

Kaitlyn Hempfling (4th, 21:04), Jill Rosselit (9th, 21:57) and Madyson Haselman (10th, 22:11) posted top 10 finishes for Ottawa-Glandorf.

Pandora-Gilboa's Vanessa McCullough (21:30), Breana Hovest (21:31) and Audrey Sprunger (21:32) were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Columbus Grove's Alex Ricker ended up eighth 21:46.

Rams' Miller second

GALION -- A pair of Upper Sandusky runners finished in the top 10 to lead area runners at Tuesday's Crestline Invitational at Amanns Reservoir.

Colonel Crawford won the boys meet with 50 points. Upper Sandusky (190) was seventh and Riverdale placed 13th (304).

The Rams' Garrett Miller was second in 17:22.22 and teammate Dominic Solis seventh in 17:50.8.

Plymouth won the girls meet with 30 points. Upper Sandusky (130) was fifth.

Riverdale's Anna Penwell was the top area individual as she ended up 10th in 22:36.32.

Cardington-Lincoln's Jacob Long (16:39.77) and Galion Northmor's Dani Blum (20:28.67) were the boys and girls individual champions.
