Arcadia graduate Mason True, 20, a sophomore on the Northern Illinois wrestling team, and teammate Brad Dieckhaus face assault causing bodily injury charges after a Feb. 27 fight in Iowa City. Dieckhaus and True are accused of assaulting University of Iowa student Trent James, leaving James with a bloody nose and mouth and bruising to the face. True, a three-time state qualifier and two-time state placer at Arcadia, was also charged with public intoxication. Both were released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond March 1. According to the police report obtained by the Daily Chronicle, officers were dispatched to a house at 407 N. Dubuque St. for a report of a fight. Witnesses identified Dieckhaus as the party who threw the first punch. The complaint went on to state the victim was punched several times and was kicked in the face while on the ground. The police report alleges that James was kicked in the face by True, who was noted to have an odor of alcohol on his breath and slurred speech. Both wrestlers were indefinitely suspended by Northern Illinois wrestling coach Dave Grant. True, who posted a record of 11-11 at 174 pounds this season for the Huskies, was unable to compete in last weekend's Mid American Conference championships. In Iowa, assault causing bodily injury is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a maximum fine of $1,875. No trial date has been set. Subscribe to The Courier. |
