Local Sports from The CourierTuesday, March 09, 2010College swimming: UF to compete at D-II nationals this weekUniversity of Findlay senior Lindsay Hatteberg will be trying to earn All-American honors for the third straight year when the NCAA Division II national swimming and diving championships get underway Wednesday at C.T. Branin Natatorium. Lindsay Hatteberg will be competing in six events for Findlay. Nikki Schnell-McCoy, a sophomore, and Jill Herbst, a freshman, will participate in five events for the Oilers. Freshman Maddie Bell will dive in two events and sophomore Brittany Balitzkat will compete in three relays. Hatteberg will be competing in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle races as well as three relays. She holds Findlay's school records in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyles, and is a member of the school record-setting 200 and 400-yard medley and 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays. She will be trying to attain NCAA Division II All-American honors in the 50-yard freestyle for the third straight year. Hatteberg was also an All-American in the 100-yard freestyle in 2008. Schnell-McCoy will compete individually in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke along with three relays. She owns school records in the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke individually. She also won the GLIAC 200 back earlier this season. Herbst will participate as an individual in the 100-yard butterfly and participate in the relays. Bell, who has the Findlay school-record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 391.70, will be competing in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Balitzkat will team with Hatteberg, Schnell-McCoy and Herbst to compete in the 200 medley, 400 medley and the 200 freestyle relays.
